8/30/2023 0 Comments Ford thunderbird 92![]() ![]() i will be replacing the switch in the next day or two, and will retain the receipt for reimbursement in the event there is another recall related to the switch. i contacted the dealer that did the recall work last year and ford's customer service dept., and was told by representatives from both that there is no warranty on parts replaced under a recall and that, therefore, i would have to pay the cost of replacing the switch myself. since then i turned the lights on and off several times without a failure. i then tried wiggling the switch while in the on position (that had worked with the original switch) and the lights eventually did come on. i inspected the condition of the headlight fuse and found it to be good. ![]() this morning when leaving for work i pulled the light switch out fully and had no headlights. i am now beginning to see similar symptoms with the switch that was installed last year by the ford dealer. headlights flickering off when the fog lamps were used). the original switch had exhibited the symptoms listed in the recall letter i received (i.e. On 12-14-1999 the headlight switch on my 1992 thunderbird was replaced under recall number 99s30. my guess would be the throttle cable snapped based on the fact that the pedal suddenly went limp and then i lost the ability to either accelerate or decelerate.*ak i thought i would make this report first and wait for your advice as to what to do. i have not yet had a mechanic look at the car. i then called a tow truck which towed the vehicle to my residence. the throttle is obviously stuck wide open and i think i probably incurred transmission damage getting it to stop. i waited a few minutes and started the car up again and it was racing at full throttle while in park. i was on an empty road and was able to get to the shoulder without incident. i applied the brakes and managed to get the vehicle to stop by putting it in park while it was still moving and turning off the ignition. when i took my foot off the accelerator the car kept going at 55 mph. I was driving at approximately 50-55 mph when the accelerator pedal suddenly went limp under my foot. ![]()
